AIBIM has a proven and established capability in implementing client - specific SRI requirements. We appreciate that requirements in this regard may vary - often reflecting the differing purposes, objectives or missions of SRI-minded investors.
Central to our SRI screening capability is our use of services provided to us by EIRIS, the UK-based ethical investment research service.
This service enables us to access the EIRIS research database to screen potential investee companies against pre-determined ethical or SRI criteria.
The universe of companies covered by EIRIS includes companies quoted in all the geographic regions included in the FTSE world index.
ABIM also has access to an independent Ethical Reference Group. Such access can be helpful as an independent reference point in arriving at decisions as to the suitability of companies in occasional instances where normal screening may prove inconclusive.
AIBIM liaises with potential investee companies both to seek information and as part of a process of engagement on SRI-specific issues when required.
Importantly, AIBIM liaises directly with individual clients both in relation to specific SRI specific decisions but also to ensure consistency of thought behind the approach we are exercising on their behalf.
AIBIM’s “House” SRI criteria
- Our house criteria incorporate both negative and positive screening.
- Negative screening seeks to exclude companies if they have significant involvement in production of tobacco products, whole weapon systems, pornographic media, gambling services, abortifacients and contraceptives. Companies are also required to meet criteria in regard to human rights and the environment.
- Our “House” SRI portfolios are also screened to ensure that there a clear bias in favour of selecting companies with above average scores in regards to environmental policy and elements of corporate governance (positive screening)
